Shot of That 100 Proof: Apathy – Weekend at the Cape

Weekend at the Cape expertly finishes Apathy’s series of releases centered around his asshole raps and his New England home. Like Connecticut Casual, it’s awesome to witness how great Apathy is when he’s focused and keeps the tracklist short.

I LOVE the art on these albums/EPs!

Apathy – Connecticut Casual

T has been patiently waiting, so let’s get into some Army of the Pharoahs material that I don’t hate. The album stream is embedded at the bottom.

I think Apathy is probably my favorite white rapper. Or maybe El-P. Both are clearly attached to the East Coast boom-bap that I love, and both SPIT. Where El-P’s music is very personal and often sonically and lyrically challenging, Apathy has much more of a back-to-basics ethos that makes him instantly likeable for any fan of hard beats and boastful lyrics. Holding the crew together, like Joe Flacco will hopefully do for Baltimore in the coming season, is Apathy, the Connecticut underground rapper/institution who has yet to fall off even after 15 years of hip-hop notoriety. In addition to keeping his own output up to par, he’s kept the Demigodz roster filled with hungry emcees who are actually pretty talented. Currently, those emcees are Ryu of Styles of Beyond, Esoteric, Celpth Titled, Motive, and Blacastan.

Check Out Demigodz – Killmatic

Killmatic CoverThe Demigodz are a crew of underground rappers led by Connecticut’s Apathy. They’ve actually been around since the early 90s, but some hip-hop heads have probably only first heard of these guys when Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park enlisted their talents for his Fort Minor project in 2005. Styles of Beyond were featured a lot on the proper Fort Minor album, The Rising Tied, while Fort Minor’s We Major mixtape included S.O.B. again plus Apathy and Celph Titled. Predictably, their features made those releases worth listening to, because who wants to hear Mike Shinoda rap by himself for a full-length cd???
